The offline internet

Internet Archive
Most of you will already know the Wayback Machine to search for previous versions of websites. But did you ever take the time to look at the site behind this great service?
The Internet Archive is a gigantic resource for Movies, Music, Software and Texts.
One of the gems in my opinion is the SIGGRAPH Electronic Theatre.
Have a look and take your time.
Who is Mahir Cagri
Photojournalist Mahir’s personal homepage became an online phenomenon, eventually claiming to hold the world record for most visits. With it’s corny photos and phrases such as “I Kiss You” and “I like to take foto-camera”, it later turned out that Mahir himself was not completely responsible for the site, but instead it was a prankster translator who had spiced up some of the details.

My personal favorite surely is Ellen Feiss.
Duke Nukem is back!
Ok ok, the headline is just a fake
There is no upcoming Duke Nukem Forever (yet) and perhaps/possibly there will never be.
But after getting the Vaporware award in 2001, 2002 and 2003 and achieving the Vaporware Livetime Award, Duke Nukem Forever is now back on the list at first place.
Still, 3D Realms is claiming in theire Duke Nukem FAQ, that the game is still in progress (YES, off course … after beeing in production for nearly a decade
) and „done, when it’s done.“.
Hope dies last!
Google free proxy
Now Google has it’s own free proxy waiting for you to use it inlcuding a direct translation service:
Usage of the proxy is explained in this article at O’Reillys.
You can directly access any site with this template
http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=en|en&u=www.forbiddensite.com
where the first language code indicates the original and the second one the language to be translated to. Of course the translation is mostly bad, but this is a common problem.
Internet Down
I’ve asked myself many times, what would happen if the internet was down for more then 1 minute.
See the answer at Internet Down.
Toogle
Woogle
Woogle is a fun service that translates any text entered in a „picture representation“.
